Call for Action | Legislative Alert

Posted over 1 year ago by Taniya Frazier

Please share with your family, friends, and nurse colleagues!!!! We need hundreds of calls to the State House.

HB 133, which is a preceptor tax incentive bill to encourage NPs to precept in rural areas, has passed the House Committee and is on to the full House. Please pass on the call to action and call your state Representative. I have included the steps to finding your representative and a script to follow. This will take two minutes of your time but can impact NPs and the health care of patients in Alabama.

Step one: go to https://alison.legislature.state.al.us and determine your Representative (and Senator for later) Click home -> scroll down to "find my legislator"
Step two: call the office number and state your support of HB 133. I have included a script, but you can add a personal testament! For instance, "I am not from Fayette country initially, but I precepted here and loved the citizens, so I decided to stay to work and live here."

Hello,

I am (insert name) and a  constituent of your district. I request your support in the House for HB 133, which would provide a tax incentive credit for nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and medical students. As a nurse (or nurse practitioner), I encourage you to vote yes for HB 133 as the legislation's goal is to encourage these healthcare providers to seek preceptorships in rural areas. Hopefully, they will remain in the area to provide health care. Many of our counties are considered healthcare provider shortage areas and this legislation would be the first step in changing that statistic. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions. I look forward to hearing of your support of HB 133.
